The Greater Worcester Land Trust is a small non-profit (501 c 3) organization that operates on a lean annual budget. This philosophy ensures that the Trust seeks bargain sales, gifts, and grants to efficiently acquire land, and fully utilizes the volunteer labors of board members. This is to assure members and donors that any contribution is used as effectively as possible to build and maintain conservation property in the Greater Worcester Area.
The Massachusetts Audubon Society works to protect the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. Together with more than 100,000 members, we care for 34,000 acres of conservation land, provide educational programs for 225,000 children and adults annually, and advocate for sound environmental policies at local, state, and federal levels. Mass Audubon’s mission and actions have expanded since our beginning in 1896 when our founders set out to stop the slaughter of birds for use on women’s fashions. Today we are the largest conservation organization in New England. Our statewide network of wildlife sanctuaries, in 90 Massachusetts communities, welcomes visitors of all ages and serves as the base for our work.
National Grid announced plans to file with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities its proposal to build and operate a Smart Grid Pilot in Worcester, Mass. The pilot, which will involve approximately 15,000 customers, is believed to be the largest and most comprehensive in New England. National Grid will submit its proposal to the DPU April 1, 2009. The two-year pilot is the first step toward creating a more efficient, environmentally responsible modern grid, said the company. National Grid hopes to gain valuable information from the pilot that it can use in the future to develop a smart grid on a wider scale. Green2Growth
Opacum Land Trust, Inc. is a regional, all volunteer organization formed in 2000 to protect natural and cultural resources in South Central Massachusetts. Our aim is to protect the New England charm and rural character of our communities, promote proactive conservation, and the creation of greenways and wildlife corridors. Opacum Land Trust is able to permanently protect open space through donation or purchase of land, bargain sales, or by holding a conservation easement.
Regional Environmental Council (REC) is a grassroots environmental justice organization located in Worcester, Massachusetts–New England’s second largest city. Founded in 1971, REC has been dedicated to building healthy, sustainable and just communities in Worcester and beyond for almost 40 years.
Worcester Community Action Council‘s (WCAC) mission is helping people move to economic self-sufficiency through programs, partnerships, and advocacy. WCAC was started in 1965 under President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “War on Poverty.” It is the federally designated “community action agency” for Central MA. Today, the agency serves the City of Worcester and 43 surrounding towns through 18 emergency and social service programs.
Worcester Earn-A-Bike is a non-profit, community-based bicycle program. Our mission is to teach fun, affordable bike repair to neighborhood youth and community members. We encourage bike riding as an empowering, economical, and healthy alternative to car culture.
The Worcester Energy Barnraisers were born in 2009 during the Summer of Solutions 2009 Worcester. It was a two-month cooperative summer learning experience which focused on community-based solutions to climate change, energy, and environmental justice, addressed at the intersection of environmental, social, and economic issues.

Worcester Roots Project is a collective of youth and adult organizers on a mission to create opportunities for economic, social and environmental justice. We send these roots of opportunity into the community, sprouting up co-operatively run and green projects and initiatives that build toward our vision of neighborhoods that are safe for living, working and playing.
Worcester Tree Initiative is a private, non-profit effort to reforest the City of Worcester and surrounding communities. It was Initiated in January 2009 by Congressman Jim McGovern and Lt. Governor Tim Murray with the intent of planting 30,000 trees in Worcester and surrounding towns in the next 5 years.
